Dogs are from Venus

Studies have proved that dogs are more healthier and docile when looked after by women.  There is the popular saying that “a dog is a man’s best friend”.  Science has produced new evidence that this concept needs to be revised.  If it is true what is said in the best seller Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus, puppies are also venetians.  An unpublished study from the Agricultural and Veterinary University of Brasilia in Brazil, has discovered that animals have more affinity with women than men.  Under their care, they become more healthy and social. According to Professor Vanner Boere, in charge of the study, dogs react less with women when they are treated in a softer and more friendlier way.  “Women are more inclined to establish more extensive and long-lived ties than men do which reflects on the sociability of pets”.    The conclusions from this work were based on analysing physiological patterns of 60 dogs and their owners.   Cardiac frequency, hemogram and eardrum temperatures indicated on how puppies emotions run.  In the case of the owners, arterial pressure and pulse rates were evaluated. In the past few years a series of scientific studies have revealed that the presence of animals helps relieve stress in humans.  Boere’s team wanted to know if the reverse was true, or if in fact, people influenced the behavioural emotional state of dogs.  This thesis was confirmed  when people were waiting to be attended with their animals at the Veterinary Hospital for Small Animals at the UNB and the animals showed less anxiety.  “At the same time we verified, by measuring the number of monocytes in the animal’s blood, that dogs bought up by women were actively less emotional” as stated by vet Gabriela Gutiérrez Wiedeman.  The more stress there is, the larger the quantity of these cells can be found in the organism.  Scientists also claim that dogs belonging to women have a higher temperature in their left eardrum which is related to positive emotions.
